Excited to present a new album, New Vintage. Growing up around St. Louis, if you liked rock you listened to KSHE95 radio. Classic rock from the 70’s along with brothers who encouraged me to explore rock from the 50’s onward shaped my musical palette. In the 80’s I veered into punkier territory and into hip hop. But, those roots are my foundation–the unmoving part of what I love. On New Vintage, I let that foundation set the tone for everything on the album and the genres that are not rock have that same basis. Everything has that authentic, from-the-heart grit that I love in music. Every song has a definite story to tell from lost loves and friends to dinner time and travels.
Thematic Album
New Vintage is themed. When I wrote “Ring My Bell” I loved the idea that the song echoed “Mustang Sally” with groove and innuendo. I also loved that it sounded like it was written in the 1960’s. As I kept writing, other songs made me think of that vintage aspect. Then I started to write on purpose. After listening to some 1970’s Charlie Daniels, I wrote “Only Way I Can” inspired by “Long Haired Country Boy.” Then the snowball gained momentum. Soon I had plenty of songs in various genres that cast a net in what I considered a theme.
Release Show
June 1, 2018 I had a release show at The Wolf in Ballwin, MO. The Wolf is a great place in our community promoting #eatlocal and #listenlocal. Besides the awesome food and drink menus, you have one of the best open mic nights in the St. Louis area as well as a music room that showcases area talent 2-3 nights a week. One of my former students, Wesley Curtis, took some great pictures from the evening.
Summer Tour
At the end of July, I’m starting a short summer tour starting in Nashville and going through the Carolinas, Alabama, and Georgia. Touring is always a whirlwind of chaos and fun. This will be the first time playing in Nashville and the first time in AL, GA, NC, and SC. Excited to meet new people, play music, and enjoy the experience.
