As much as Instagram is *the* platform for many things, King George is only the second blog post originating from the picturesque platform. I connected with Melbourne, Australian band King George and saw they have a 2018 tour of Japan in the works. Wow! I listened to their music. Wow, again! George Zois, singer/guitarist/songwriter, from the band responded and here we are. Click play and watch King George; see if you don’t fall into the modern rock groove of “904” like I did. The Story Behind “904”
Here’s the story in George’s own words.
‘904’ is a song about feeling proud to be in a band and playing music no matter what. The song is named after the apartment number the band stayed in when in Toronto playing Indie Week in 2013. It was a turning point for the band as we had a lot of fun in that apartment and plenty of chats about our frustrations at the lack of airplay the band was getting back home in Australia. We promised ourselves we would just enjoy our music and be who we are and not give a fuck about it. It was the best thing we did. We are true believers in defining our own success. The fact that I can write a song at all (good or bad) for me is something I am so grateful to be able to do. To even have 2 albums out as an independent band is the real success for us.
Like most of our songs, I wrote 904 in my home studio as a basic demo. The band, Michael (Drums), Chris (Guitar) and Ben (Bass) then worked to bring the tune to life, add their magic touches and fulfil its potential. The sound engineer arranged for us to record the song (and most of the album) in a 3 story mansion just outside of Melbourne. The drums were recorded in a pool room and guitars in a wine cellar as we were keen to dial up the right sounds to capture the feeling of the song.
We love playing this song live due to its energy and positive vibes and of course its always well received by the punters.
‘904’ is taken off the bands second album ‘Love Songs and Medications’. The album was nominated for best rock album at the 2016 Independent Music Awards held in NYC in 2016.
King Georges’ new single ‘Get Up’ will be coming out in August and the band are touring Japan in September.
