Gears “I See You, Pt. 2”

Enjoy!  That’s the genuine command you’ll hear with Gears as you groove to their sound. I met Gears members Chandler and Christian in July before a Bimingham, AL show at The Nick.  They performed as a trio and brought some serious soul and groove to the stage.  The band is based in Tuscaloosa, AL and often play in that area.  Click play on their song “I See You, Pt. 2” and read the story behind the song.

The Story Behind I See You, Pt. 2

This is a song that was written from the perspective of someone who has been broken up with and kicked out by their significant other and now finds themselves in a tight spot, begging for certain things from their ex-lover. Musically, it was heavily inspired by the end of one our previous tracks (I See You), as well as by various 1970’s era soft rockers such as Hall & Oates and Wings.

This was the lead single from our Beantown EP and always comes in handy as a fun, jammable addition to our set. We wrote and recorded this track in the winter of 2016 and were able to learn a lot about production from experimenting with the background vocals and automated effects that we felt the song needed. As a band, our favorite part of this song are the “No No Noes” that come during the second verse. Not only is it a fun vocal part and a direct Hall&Oates inspiration, but it also was a lot of fun to record and mix. Enjoy!

Gears Bio

Gears are a two-piece band out of Tuscaloosa, Alabama comprised of Chandler Grammer and Christian Crew. Functioning in a similar vein to bands such as Steely Dan and The Black Keys, Chandler and Christian draft musicians to accompany them in the live setting and, more rarely, in the studio, while writing the music themselves.
